Job Description
The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports plasma center operations, ensuring donor safety and compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility and manage informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions; follow SOPs for medical emergencies, develop Center Physician’s standing orders, and arrange donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or guidance on medical/technical issues regarding donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents, assess if further evaluation is required by occupational health/E.R., and consult EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, assisting investigations of pandemic threats in the community.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of a recognized nursing program meeting state requirements.
- Active RN, NP, or PA license/certification in the state of assignment.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Minimum of two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
Hourly wage range: $40.48 - $55.66 (actual rate may vary by experience, education, skills, location, and applicable wage laws).
