Securitas Security Services Inc. is currently seeking to hire Public Safety Officers to work at Boston Children's Hospital. Qualified candidates must have flexibility with weekend and holiday shifts.
A Public Safety Officer responds to door alarms, patient escorts, patient restraints, high-risk patient watches; acts as liaison with local and state law enforcement agencies and more. At Boston Children's Hospital, a large facility operating 24x7/365, officers must be able to navigate situations with discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality. Officers are expected to be professionally sociable while on tour and interact professionally with staff, patients, and visitors in common areas.
Officers must report for duty as scheduled regardless of weather conditions, with a strict attendance policy. All employees must adhere to Boston Children's Hospital culture of "Exceptional Care, Exceptional Service".
- Interact with both mentally sound and mentally diminished patients
- Physically restrain as well as mechanically restrain patients; wrist and ankle straps
- Handle verbally/physically aggressive patients (bite, spit, punch, kick, etc.)
- Conduct patient watches which may require sitting in one place for up to 8 hours while remaining attentive
- Prevent patients from self-harm and/or leaving the room
- De-escalate patients or guests when they become agitated or disruptive
- Assist hospital staff with searching patients for dangerous weapons or objects
- Write up to 300 reports per year if not more
- Manage main desk and lobby area while displaying exceptional phone etiquette and transferring phone lines to different departments/inpatient floors
- Conduct access control and interact face-to-face with more than 250 visitors per day
- Provide directions to guests
- Respond to alarms within patrol zone with a strong sense of urgency (panic alarms, door alarms, etc.)
- Cell phones or other electronic devices are not authorized while on duty; lockers are provided and emergency contact procedures are in place
- Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures
- Effective team member
- Maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances
- Courteous telephone manner
- Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports
- Good organizational skills
- Provide high quality customer service
- Good interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures
