About the Position

The Executive Director serves as the lead fundraiser for the region, and serves as the head of the regional campus, responsible for managing the daily business operations. The executive director is responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and management of fund development, community outreach and general administration in the geographical territory covered. This position oversees all aspects of regional philanthropy and administration and supports the program functions in accordance with national management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mission Advancement & Strategic Leadership: Responsible for the advancement of Canine Companions’ mission, vision, and core values in the region. Serve as the lead representative for Canine Companions in the region. Actively promote and optimize a strong flow of public presentations, awareness and partnerships.
  • Fundraising & Donor Relations: Lead and manage regional staff in fund development activities such as networking, donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, grant research and writing, production of charitable events, and engagement of clubs and service organizations, participating directly in these activities as best serves the mission. Working with the vice president philanthropy, develop and implement a comprehensive regional fundraising plan to include specific philanthropy goals, objectives and metrics that support Organizational goal, strategies and initiatives.
  • Operations Management: Working with Organizational leadership and in collaboration with program director, develop the annual regional income and expense budget. Manage and monitor regional revenue and philanthropy expenses to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
  • Staff Leadership & Development: Recruit, manage and retain a high-performing team; create an environment of integrity, excellence and innovation where staff and volunteers are committed to achieve organizational and team goals.
  • Volunteer Management: Oversees region’s volunteer program, coaching and mentoring volunteer coordinator in collaboration with national senior manager of volunteer programs. Build strong relationships with volunteer leaders and mediates volunteer concerns.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong aptitude for public speaking.
  • Strong ability to fundraise with deep knowledge of fundraising best practices
  • Strong awareness of disability etiquette
