We are seeking to fill a Full-Time Surgery Assistant position that requires experience as either an Oral Surgery or Dental Assistant.

Monday through Friday hours vary depending on the clinic load. Hours vary for start time as early as 6:30 am and end as late as 6:30 pm. These are not 12‑hour shifts.

Position Summary

Under Direct and Indirect Supervision, the oral surgery assistant will assist the Oral Surgeon in both administrative and clinical duties, including preparing the patient for procedure or exam, sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting during procedures. The assistant also provides patient and practice support services, including personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with dental and medical emergencies according to OSHA and office procedures.
  • Maintain CPR/ACLS/PALS/DAANCE certifications.
  • Assist the chairside during the administration of nitrous oxide and sevoflurane.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
  • Record treatment and procedure information in patient records.
  • Take i‑CAT, panoramic, and PA x‑rays.
  • Seat patient, set up monitor; monitor patient during sedation and recovery.
  • Assist with multiple functions, including set‑up and tear‑down of consult/surgery rooms.
  • Actively provide hand instruments and materials to Oral Surgeons during exams and procedures to help maintain patient comfort and efficiency.
  • Use and maintain hazard control protocols as established by OSHA, DEA, and office standards.
  • Review post‑operative instructions with patients and escort them to their car.
  • Be familiar with office/surgery equipment, performing cleaning procedures as indicated.
  • Always represent the practice in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the assigned work schedule and office policies.
  • Handle multiple deadlines and task assignments comfortably and efficiently.
  • Work both independently and cooperatively in team settings.
  • Occasionally, travel by car or plane may be required for continuing education or seminars.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned periodically.
  • Receive training to become an Implant Coordinator after completing surgery assistant training.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures per OSHA and office standards.
  • Adhere to office policy and procedures when collecting payments.
  • Remain comfortable working around blood and odors that may be unpleasant.
  • Be detail‑oriented to work efficiently in small spaces and maintain patient comfort.
  • Show flexibility; job duties may change over time and may involve assisting in other areas of the office.
  • Excel in forward thinking to anticipate the needs of the doctor and the patient.
  • Demonstrate active listening by giving full attention to others, asking relevant questions, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Demonstrate good reading comprehension of written documents.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills to convey information effectively.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • A diploma or certificate from an approved dental assisting program, if possible.
  • Preferred two years of dental/oral surgery practice experience.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
