Position: SPED Teacher - MAPS Kindergarten - 1.0 FTE - Wilson Elementary (2026-27)

SPED Teacher – MAPS Kindergarten (2026‑27)

Location: Wilson Elementary, Medford, Oregon

Starting Date: Aug 20, 2026

Salary: $66,426 – $106,648 annual (includes Self‑Contained Classroom stipend and District Special Education stipend)

Sign‑On Bonus: $5,000 for new district and first‑time Special Education teachers

Summary

Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives, follows state and federal requirements, and functions as a case manager to assigned students. The teacher may be required to work before or after the contractual year and will be compensated at the per diem rate.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans, provide assessments, track progress, and modify as needed.
  • Coordinate delivery of special education services per each student’s IEP.
  • Maintain and complete all paperwork mandated by local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Stay current on special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development.
  • Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of educational assistants when directed.
  • Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers regarding student needs.
  • Consult classroom teachers on adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior plans, and other interventions.
  • Implement consistent classroom structure to encourage responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect per district policies.
  • Participate in school‑level teams and provide input on Tier 3 interventions.
  • Perform additional duties such as room setup, telephone answering, event assistance, in‑home visits, and other related tasks as assigned.
Professional Preparedness & Growth
  • Use well‑planned, effective instruction methods and multiple assessment strategies.
  • Support students in meeting rigorous learning goals and engage them in deep understanding of content.
  • Meet district, state, and federal timelines and legal requirements; maintain confidential student records.
  • Recognize diverse learner development and implement developmentally appropriate, challenging, and high‑standard environments.
  • Make objective, non‑emotional decisions regarding student welfare.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of essential skills, literacy promotion, and technology.
  • Improve professional skills through in‑service workshops, district meetings, continuing education.
  • Set goals and collaborate in planning with the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Eligible and licensed by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for special education.
  • Experience and familiarity with state, federal, and local special education laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: conflict resolution, confidentiality, teamwork.
  • Strong communication in English; preference for Spanish speakers.
  • Mathematical ability: basic algebra, geometry, percentages, ratios.
  • Reasoning: apply common sense, problem‑solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency: database, email, internet, spreadsheets, word processing, teaching software.
  • Current Oregon Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s) in the required subject and grade level.
  • Physical ability: stamina for 8 h instruction, moderate repetition, limited lifting (40 lb), sustained vision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, record‑keeping, and compliance with laws.
Physical Demands

Stamina for 8 h instruction, use of hands for repetitive motions, standing/walking 3–6 h/day, occasional bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, lifting up to 40 lb, clear vision, clear speech, emotional stability.

Work Environment

Low to moderate noise; exposure to fumes, odors, dust; occasional blood‑borne pathogen exposure.
