Position: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH Teacher)

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team serving students from birth through age 21 in beautiful Southern Oregon. This dynamic position includes both classroom‑based instruction and itinerant services across a variety of educational settings. The DHH teacher will support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in developing communication, academic, and self‑advocacy skills, working closely with families, educators, and service providers to ensure inclusive and individualized educational experiences.

Ideal candidates will have strong knowledge of Deaf education, fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by students, and a commitment to equitable student‑centered support across developmental stages and educational environments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Diagnose, prescribe, design, and implement instruction for each child as determined by the IEP.
  • Diagnose, prescribe, design, and implement instruction for communication problems, including effective aural management and auditory training programs.
  • Utilize behavior management for instruction of appropriate personal and social behaviors.
  • Implement and/or organize language therapy based on the child’s needs.
  • Advise school personnel, parents, and community members about the special needs of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing child.
  • Organize, schedule, and support inclusion of D/HH students in regular classroom and extracurricular activities as appropriate.
  • Schedule and supervise interpreters assigned to students on caseload.
  • Coordinate, participate, and/or lead referral, eligibility, IEP, and placement meetings for assigned children.
  • Complete all reports, documentation, and requests for information in the manner and timeline specified.
  • Establish and maintain positive, flexible, and cooperative relationships with ESD and local school district staff.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform job‑related tasks as designated by the coordinator/supervisor.
MINIMUM PREREQUISITES
  • Teaching experience and/or practicum involvement with hearing students.
  • Teaching experience and/or practicum involvement with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
  • Oregon license as Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
LOCATION AND LENGTH

In person, at assigned school(s) in multiple counties.

Length of Position: 1.0 FTE / 190 days (academic year).

SALARY

Salary Range: $60,987.34 to $ annually for the 2025‑2026 school year, per Collective Bargaining Agreement.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR

Department Administrator.
