Summary: The Elementary Principal is responsible for organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and families. Provides leadership and administration resources to motivate instruction, teaching, and learning and supports the team towards optimum performance in achieving the best possible opportunities for student growth and development. The Principal works to implement an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest-performing students.

The principal fosters a culture of high expectations, ensures all students have equitable access to high-quality and culturally-relevant instruction and builds strong partnerships with families and the community. Creates a safe, welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served. Responsibilities include but are not limited to staffing; staff supervision and evaluation;

instructional leadership; curriculum oversight; student, parent, and community relations; student discipline; school safety; and fiscal and facilities management of the elementary school building.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administrative/Organizational
  • Ensures effective community-staff-student relations by promoting communication and participation, identifying needs and planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating school-community relations activities in a visible way.
  • Promotes parental and community involvement in school and District activities.
  • Promotes a positive, safe, and caring climate for learning that supports racial and ethnic diversity.
  • Represents the school in community forums, parent‑teacher organizations, and other settings to maintain support for educational goals.
  • Responds to inquiries from stakeholders to identify issues and recommend or implement action plans.
  • Participates in budget planning and develops expenditure review and control procedures for cost‑beneficial operations.
  • Manages building budget, reviews, evaluates, requisitions, purchases, and allocates instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Supervises and evaluates staff to improve teaching and learning, providing constructive feedback and growth opportunities.
  • Coordinates curriculum, safety, site council, faculty meetings to ensure outcomes meet school, District, and state policies.
  • Implements policies, procedures, and directives to comply with mandates.
  • Intervenes in student inappropriate behavior to help modify behavior and develop skills.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, audits, and other documentation.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Personnel Management
  • Supervises and coordinates instructional personnel and classroom assignments.
  • Hires licensed and classified staff and evaluates them.
  • Provides training and in‑services to staff and families.
Leadership‑Overall
  • Leads elementary curriculum planning, integration, and execution; serves as instructional leader and operational manager.
  • Works closely with staff and site council to identify instructional needs and develop plans.
  • Assists in implementing instructional strategies, communication, and behavior support for diverse learners and staff development.
  • Assumes leadership at off‑site functions and participates in District advisory committees.
  • Assists the educational community in understanding site and District goals and strategies.
  • Participates in policy development, administration, and employment negotiation.
  • Models leadership of energy, integrity, and communication skills.
  • Communicates effectively and cooperatively with all stakeholders.
  • Provides visible leadership at school and community events.
