Job Summary: The Color Guard Instructor instructs students in the fundamentals of advanced flag technique, provides supervision of students at extracurricular events, manages the color guard budget, creates choreography for performances and evaluates program effectiveness in alignment with program goals.
Essential Job Functions- Recruit students
- Attend a variety of supporting activities (e.g., parent orientations, recruiting, recognition events, banquets, fundraising events, etc.) to provide information regarding the program and/or recognize participants’ accomplishments.
- Create and teach choreography to students
- Develop practice plans, attend practices and evaluate team and individual performance in alignment with program goals.
- Develop a plan of action for fundraising and budgeting to maintain and balance activity accounts.
- Instruct students in routines and techniques to teach and improve fundamental skills.
- Maintain open communication with students and parents.
- Partner with the High School Band Director to evaluate program needs.
- Provide Color Guard participation at extracurricular events (e.g., football games, pep rallies, parades, and community events) to support school spirit.
- Review schedules, procedures and develop routines to create an organized, unified program.
- Supervise students at any extracurricular events to ensure proper student behavior in accordance with Board policies.
- Supervise and instruct students at practices, camps and all related Color Guard activities.

- Rules and regulations of the activity to which assigned.

- Experience:
- Previous coaching experience of activity to which assigned is preferred.
- Previous experience as participant of activity to which assigned preferred.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- Training:
- Valid Oregon teacher certification is preferred.
- College training in coaching desirable.

They may lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision. Clear speech and emotional stability to work under pressure are also required.
