Position: Music Instructor (Adjunct Faculty Pool)

Adjunct Faculty Pool For Music Courses

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching music courses in the Music Program which serves as a part of the Humanities department. The pool will remain open until June 2026 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may log in to the system and withdraw your application from the pool.

Typically at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.

Instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various music courses. An ideal music instructor can provide instruction on at least two of the following classes:

  • Group Guitar
  • Music Technology
  • Songwriting
  • Music Theory and Aural Skills
  • Music Fundamentals
  • Hand Drumming
  • Jazz Combo
  • Commercial Music Ensemble
  • History of Rock
  • History of Jazz

Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the humanities department of Rogue Community College.

You will be asked to teach classes in-person at Riverside Campus in Medford and/or Redwood Campus in Grants Pass in Southern Oregon. Some classes may be held remotely on Blackboard (Zoom/Web). Knowledge of remote teaching and Blackboard is preferred if you are teaching academic music courses.

Supervision Received The dean, in consultation with the department chair is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.

Screening Criteria

Education: Master of Music (MM) or Master of Arts in Music (MA) required. Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with significant experience in the field of music and music education will be considered. Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Knowledge of: Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, and spreadsheets; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.

Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students and staff; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in the classroom; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth; incorporate current technology into instruction; demonstrate excitement and enthusiasm in teaching foreign language classes; maintain interactive communication in the target language, adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including lectures, group activities, individual instruction;

work and interact effectively with staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Pass a criminal background check.

Licenses: If required to drive on behalf of the college, must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.
