Engineering Technician III – Traffic
The City of Medford is looking for an Engineering Technician III in Traffic to support projects that keep our streets safe, efficient, and well‑coordinated. The role blends fieldwork, technical review, public service, and problem‑solving, including inspection of traffic–related improvements, review of traffic control plans, data collection, community response, and coordination with contractors, developers, engineers, and City staff.

RequiredEducation and Experience
- High‑school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Four (4) years of engineering or related technical experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field that may substitute for the experience.
- Associate’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties.
- Valid driver’s license by hire date; new residents must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days.
- Acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment.
- 8 hours daily, Monday–Friday.
- After the first 90 days, possible alternate schedules:
- 9‑80 (nine‑hour days with a three‑day weekend every other week)
- 4‑10 (four 10‑hour days with three days off each week)
Position is part of the AFSCME employee group. The anticipated salary range for Engineering Technician III – Traffic is $34.15 (first step) to $35.86 or $37.65 (second or third step). City of Medford may adjust salary with a 3% salary adjustment and a 3% cost‑of‑living adjustment effective July 1, 2026.

Job Duties
- Produce, process, file, and maintain records, maps, plans, permits, property descriptions, and other technical information.
- Assist the public with inquiries related to public works services and resolve citizen complaints.
- Consult with contractors, developers, other departments, agencies, and the public.
- Prepare reports related to activities in the assigned area.
- Assist in preparing City Council agenda commentaries and attend meetings on behalf of the Public Works Department.
- Complete job tasks, special projects, and other duties to meet team, department, and City goals.
- Review and prepare traffic control plans.
- Perform field reviews for traffic safety, including sight distance, warrant analysis, and public requests.
- Analyze traffic counts and crash records for impact analysis.
- Perform turning movement and tube counts; prepare GIS maps and AutoCAD drawings.
- Inspect construction projects for compliance with design and specifications.
- Prepare plans and specifications for traffic improvements and review developer plans.
- Administer traffic and parking contracts, including solicitation documents, change orders, and payment processing.
- Coordinate with internal and external designers and engineers for project scope, design, and compliance.
- Engage in training opportunities, pursue professional development, and apply new techniques and technologies.
