Position: Stormwater Program Specialist (Engineering Technician IV/III)

Position Information

This position is open until filled with a first review date scheduled for Monday, July 27. Priority will be given to candidates who submit their application on or before Sunday, July 26, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

Role Overview

The City of Medford is looking for a Stormwater Program Specialist to join our Public Works Engineering team. This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of technical work, fieldwork, environmental compliance, and working with others to solve problems.

In this role, you will help protect local water quality while supporting responsible development throughout the community. Your work may include reviewing plans and calculations, conducting inspections, coordinating stormwater compliance programs, responding to drainage concerns, and working with engineers, contractors, property owners, businesses, and partner agencies.

We are looking for someone who can balance multiple priorities, apply sound judgment, and communicate technical information clearly. Experience with stormwater design, hydrology and hydraulics, erosion control, construction inspection, environmental compliance, or water‑quality programs is especially helpful.

Depending on qualifications, the position may be filled at the Engineering Technician III or IV level.

Required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Years of experience.
  • Engineering Technician III must have at least four (4) years of engineering or related technical experience.
  • Engineering Technician IV must have at least six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering technical experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, surveying, construction management, computer science, environmental science, or a specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for four (4) years of experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the specialized duties of the position as those listed above.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
Available Schedule
  • 8 hours daily, Monday – Friday.
Compensation & Benefits

This position is part of the AFSCME employee group.

  • Eligible for up to 10% additional pay:
    • 5% for a Master’s Degree
    • 5% for a FE or FS Certificate, Professional Engineer or LS
    • 5% for bilingual in Spanish
  • Starting pay is based on the evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications. Six‑step salary range allows opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
