Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.9 | Full Time | Variable Hours/Variable Days
Shift will cover every 3rd weekend (630a-3p) then rotate between weekday shifts of 10a-630p or 12p-830p and cover an occasional 2p-1030p.
Salary Range$19.2700 - $26.50
Shift Differentials- $1.27 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
- $2.15 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
- $1.10 extra for working weekends
The Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor contributes to the overall patient experience by using organizational and communication skills to receive and process laboratory specimens as specified by regulatory requirements and laboratory standard operating procedures. This is done through assessing requisition dates, specimen adequacy and acceptability to ensure accurate order entry and high-quality laboratory results.
In the Pathology Lab specifically, you will also support histology, cytology, and transcriptionist workflows. Some duties include but are not limited to assisting with slide preparation, staining, cover slipping, and labeling. You will also perform transcriptionist related duties including pathology report transcription, case preparation, document review and report distribution.
Qualifications Education- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
- Prior education or demonstrated knowledge in medical terminology
- 1 year of laboratory experience or a combination of education and or related experience in a healthcare setting providing knowledge of medical terminology is required
- Specimen processing experience including esoteric reference lab specimen handling and packaging, preferred
- Phlebotomy experience and/or knowledge of laboratory tests and /or laboratory ordering processes, preferred
- College courses/credits toward advanced degree, especially science course work, preferred
- Data entry, keyboarding experience and computer proficiency, preferred
- Medical Laboratory Assistant through the Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), preferred
- This position requires the ability to stand/walk or lift/handle/carry between 20 and 50 pounds as a regular part of your work duties.
- Good organizational skills that ensure accurate processing under adverse conditions
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task while maintaining a calm and effectual demeanor
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments
