The Director of Orchard Operations is a uniquely positioned leadership role, stewarding one of the company’s most iconic and critical assets. This role is responsible for safeguarding fruit quality, optimizing orchard production, and sustaining the cultural and operational legacy that defines Harry & David’s premium brand.
The Director of Orchard Operations will lead a small, highly experienced team of dedicated professionals accountable for orchard production, quality, and performance. This leader must balance deep agricultural expertise with a strong business mindset—driving efficiency, optimizing resources, and delivering consistent results for internal customers. Success in this role requires clear, effective communication across a broad and diverse stakeholder group, including field teams, cross‑functional partners, and senior leadership.
This position plays a key role in advancing sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices through the adoption of innovative, technology‑driven, and data‑based farming methods. The Director is accountable for managing the divisional budget, including forecasting, expense control, and efficient allocation of resources. Oversight of orchard properties, assets, and infrastructure is a critical component of the role.
The Director of Orchard Operations also serves as a primary point of contact for internal communication across business units and represents the organization in interactions with governmental agencies, regulatory groups, and the local community.
Requirements- A bachelor’s degree in Ag Econ, Agribusiness, Agronomy, Ag Science Management or related fields; or equivalent years of experience.
- 5-7+ years of orchard or other fruit growing experience
- 5-7+ years’ experience and strong understanding of strong understanding of agronomy, entomology, and pest management.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools
- Demonstrated ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedural manuals and intra‑company memos and emails.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business technical procedures and policies.
- Possess strong analytical and communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate effective means to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and teammates.
- Demonstrated diplomacy skills in communication techniques.
- Experience leading and following safety and security policies and procedures as well as sanitation and quality policies.
- Experience with hiring, training, motivating and resolving employee relations issues.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
