Job Title:

Structures Mechanic Work Environment

The role is based in aircraft hangar and shop facilities in Central Point, OR, at a headquarters location that also houses engineering, administration, machining, and quality departments. You will work with an advanced electronic tool crib system that provides access to a wide range of tools and equipment needed for structures and sheet metal work. The standard shift runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. After approximately three months, you may transition to a second shift operating from 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on a 4x10 schedule, and you should be open to this schedule.

The second shift is a newer operation with a lead already in place and a growing team.

Job Description

This role focuses on heavy maintenance, build-up, and refurbishment of heavy-lift commercial helicopters, specifically S-64 models. You will interpret blueprints to perform structural repairs and modifications, including riveting, countersinking, bending, and cutting sheet metal, as well as installing structural components. The position supports a fleet that is frequently deployed, especially during fire season, and returns to this facility for heavy checks, upgrades, and complete rebuilds using stored airframes, extensive inventory, and newly fabricated systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural repairs and modifications on S-64 heavy-lift helicopters using blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Rivet, countersink, bend, and cut aircraft sheet metal to repair and build structural components.

  • Install structural components and assemblies in accordance with engineering specifications and aviation standards.

  • Support heavy maintenance activities, including heavy checks and upgrades on deployed fleet aircraft.

  • Participate in full rebuilds of S-64 helicopters using airframes pulled from storage and available inventory.

  • Fabricate structural parts and assemblies when assigned, using appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques.

  • Perform installation-focused tasks when assigned, ensuring correct fit, alignment, and secure fastening of components.

  • Work within an aircraft hangar and shop environment alongside engineering, machining, quality, and administrative teams.

  • Use an advanced electronic tool crib system to access and manage tools required for daily tasks.

  • Complete a structures skills test (including riveting and bending) on or before the first day to demonstrate competency.

  • Follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements while performing maintenance and structural work on aircraft.

Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to drill, cut, bend, countersink, and rivet aircraft sheet metal.

  • Comfort and competence performing a structures test on or before the first day, including installing a few dozen rivets and making multiple bends.

  • Experience working with aircraft structures, sheet metal, and structural repair in an aviation environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for aircraft structures.

  • Hands-on experience with aircraft sheet metal repair and structural assembly.

  • 4+ years of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) experience for at least two of the mechanics on the team.

  • Capability to work with minimal training and operate as a highly qualified structures mechanic.

  • Ownership of basic hand tools appropriate for aircraft structures and sheet metal work.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • A&P certificate preferred but not required.

  • Experience working on helicopters or rotary-wing aircraft is beneficial.

  • Familiarity with heavy-lift commercial operations and fire season support is a plus.

  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, machining, and quality departments in a hangar and shop environment.
