Full‑time Life Coach
Hearts With A Mission has a great opportunity for a full‑time Life Coach in our Medford Youth Shelter.
Hearts With A Mission serves homeless and at‑risk youth, ages 10‑17, by providing shelter, educational support, mentoring, and transition planning with a faith‑based approach.
Schedule- Thursday – Sunday
- 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM (midnight)
- Schedule subject to change based on agency needs
The Life Coach provides direct supervision of youth aged 10‑17 living in a temporary emergency youth shelter. Responsibilities include mentoring, life skills training, coaching, peer support, and applying positive behavior management techniques in a loving yet structured setting. The Life Coach also participates in meal preparation, cleaning, record‑keeping, medication administration, transportation, written reports, and engaging with youth, while continually monitoring safety and security.
Work is performed in compliance with organizational guidelines, policies, and applicable laws.
The Life Coach reports directly to the Lead Life Coach. This is not a supervisory position, though the Life Coach may coordinate activities with others on specific projects. The position includes an introductory period of three (3) months.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Provide direct supervision and positive behavioral support of youth; monitor youth and shelter activities.
- Complete youth intake for the emergency shelter, including paperwork, assist youth and parents with needs and questions, and provide direct service by phone and face‑to‑face.
- Provide crisis intervention by phone.
- Maintain confidentiality in all youth and family matters.
- Work with Shelter Manager and Lead Life Coach to maintain a safe environment for youth.
- Provide, lead, and model life‑skill training related to each youth’s Individual Service Plan (e.g., cooking, cleaning, resume creation, job applications, medical appointments).
- Develop relationships with residents to promote healthy growth and coping skills.
- Assist youth and families in crisis to problem‑solve and resolve issues when management is unavailable.
- Provide non‑physical crisis intervention and involve other staff or authorities as needed.
- Network professionally with agencies, institutions, law enforcement, and others to coordinate services.
- Consistently apply HWAM policies and behavior‑management tools.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough written and oral communication, including incident reports.
- Assist with scheduling and implementing youth activities; may join Adventure Therapy outings if approved and trained.
- Transport youth individually or in groups as requested.
- Represent HWAM professionally in public settings; may include public speaking.
- Attend trainings and meetings as assigned; may serve on committees.
- Maintain the shelter in accordance with DHS licensing requirements and contribute to smooth operation.
- General record‑keeping practices and procedures.
- Oregon DHS Mandatory Reporting program.
- Behavioral program models (CPS, CPI, Prudent Parenting, ACES, Positive Youth Development).
- Basic human development and trauma impacts.
- Organization’s rules, regulations, procedures, mission, vision, and values.
- High level of ethics, integrity, honesty, and transparency while upholding the organization’s mission.
- Professionalism, ethics, and morals.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills.
