Job Title

Quality Engineer III (Plant)

Responsible for moderately complex engineering projects. Coordinates work within the scope of assigned projects to ensure objectives in terms of quality, cost, and time are met. Prepares project schedules and reviews cost estimates, compiles required cost and equipment information, and writes appropriation requests. Responsible for effective communication of engineering information among team members. Follows the structure of Pella's Safety, Quality, Project Management & Continuous Improvement Systems from concept through project execution.

May supervise assigned technical team members and coordinates their work within the scope of assigned responsibilities. Serves as a resource to others as assigned, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with projects.

Contributes to project identification and definition. Normally works under the guidance of a supervisor. Develops, implements and/or supports assigned technologies, products, and processes. Responsible for other projects as assigned by supervisor. Primarily an individual contributor role; however, capable of leading a team in technical projects. May supervise non-exempt and hourly employees. Proven experience beyond education to support and deliver high quality products and processes through the application of engineering principles.

Exhibits competency and begins to develop expertise in multiple engineering technologies. Performs work which involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, incomplete market requirements, unsuitability of standard materials and multiple project coordination. Independently evaluates, selects and applies engineering principles to product and process modifications. Exercises independent judgment to define project objectives and engineering / scientific approach.

Assignments may require development of unclear objectives and require investigation of multiple variables. Manage and improve processes to uphold product quality standards. Track and monitor key quality performance metrics in order to reduce manufacturing defects. The scope of influence of this position spans manufacturing, engineering, product development, sales branches and material vendors. Strong influential leadership skills are necessary when planning and implementing PPM projects and when prioritizing plant quality activities.

The ability to effectively present information, defend a position and address concerns is key to fostering collaboration. Responsible for the deployment of the Pella Quality System including the development and oversight of each plant's annual quality plan.

Normal + irregular hours/shifts required. Travel expectations:
Minimal, but required.

3+ years combined engineering experience. Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science or combination of education and experience. Responsible for ongoing development of technical and leadership competencies. Microsoft Office applications and Minitab. Engineering statistics (Lean Sigma tools). Periodically exposed to machinery where safe operating procedures must be followed, occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs. is required, work environment is noisy.

Lean Sigma Green Belt certification and ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred. Apply technical and functional expertise, Manager and improve processes, Foster collaboration, Establish plans, Coach and develop people, Lead courageously.
