In order to accomplish our goal we pride ourselves on effective and streamlined communication, ongoing mentoring and support, collaboration between school personnel (intervention specialists, general education teachers, other therapy disciplines, psychologists, administration) and providing our professionals with the materials and tools they need to succeed (access to online assessments, shared therapy resources, templates, goal banks, and membership to online therapy tools).
Accountabilities for the English Language Learner Tutor
- Works with children whose first language is not English and who qualify for English learner services.
- Works in a range of locations to help learners develop linguistic and cultural competence to participate meaningfully in school classes and activities.
- Works with the district ELL coordinator to support the English language development of the district's ELL students using the approved curricula of the ELL program and instructional models agreed upon with the coordinator including pull-out direct English language development (ELD) instruction as well as push-in support in ELL students' mainstream academic classes.
- Supports and collaborates with classroom teachers of assigned ELL students in order to provide these students more meaningful access to the curriculum – including assisting the teachers in determining, designing, and implementing appropriate accommodations in the instruction and assessment of ELL students.
- Assists the district ELL coordinator in the screening of students identified as potential ELLs using the OELPS and in the annual assessment of ELL students' English proficiency using the OELPA.
- Monitors the progress of assigned current and former ELL students in their mainstream classes.
- Communicates with assigned ELL students' parents/guardians to support their engagement and participation in their students' education.
- Assists the district ELL coordinator in maintaining accurate and timely records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Performs any additional duties determined by the district ELL coordinator and/or district/building administrators.
- Holds a B.A./B.S. degree in Education, Special Education, or related field.
- Has a license with TESOL Endorsement or multi-age PreK-12 TESOL license.
- Has an Ohio State Board of Education License.
- Previous experience with ELL students and teaching English language acquisition preferred.
- Completes documented evidence of a clear criminal record through a background check.
- Possesses a valid Ohio driver's license.

Salary Description $28.00 - $40.00/hour
