Job Openings Summary

Under the supervision of the Facility and Activities Manager this position is responsible to coordinate, conduct and support Special Olympics activities for people with disabilities residing in Medina County. This position also acts as the sole licensee as accredited by Special Olympics Ohio, Inc. and as the Local Coordinator employed by MCBDD as the primary contact for the Special Olympics Medina County delegation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise all Special Olympics Medina County activities at local, regional, state, and national levels as applicable.
  • Ensure adherence to all Special Olympics rules, regulations and requirements as indicated in the Local Coordinator Handbook.
  • Maintain all athlete intake, medical, release and annual renewal forms; document updates in e-files; communicate updates as required by Special Olympics Ohio; notify athletes/families/providers in advance of expiration date.
  • Maintain and ensure all aspects of required training and compliance for coaches, chaperones and volunteers.
  • Maintain Head of Delegation (HOD) training and compliance.
  • Utilize database software for purposes of registration for Regional and State events.
  • Ensure all coaches are familiar with sport rules for practices/competitions; provide coaches with full roster and athlete medical release forms to have during all practices and competition events.
  • Ensure accreditation compliance.
  • Create and develop season-specific practices and competitions for each sport offered in the program, including eight weeks of late afternoon/evening training prior to state competition.
  • Maintain, develop and distribute monthly activity calendar.
  • Facilitate and review annually Special Olympic sanctioned sports based on interests and participation of local athletes and coaches.
  • Report financial expenses monthly to SO Ohio, Inc.; maintain any other financial reporting as requested.
  • Ensure brand compliance for all uniforms and spirit wear.
  • Ensure timely communications with athletes, families and providers.
  • Lead fundraising efforts and drive athlete, coach, and volunteer recruitment through local events, partnerships, and transition planning to support program growth.
  • Report any media or news involvement/contact to Community Relations department as it occurs.
  • Maintain and develop healthy and professional relationships with athletes, families and providers to foster positive culture.
  • Handle uniform laundering and safely lift and move heavy bins and athletic equipment; maintain inventory of uniforms and equipment.
  • Coordinate transportation to all non-local events for athletes as needed and applicable.
  • Drive agency vehicle or passenger van rental to events.
  • Maintain clear communication with athletes, families, and program stakeholders regarding Special Olympics practices and events while collaborating on inclusive recreational activities within the broader community.
  • Provide intervention techniques and support people with disabilities as necessary to ensure health and safety.
  • Educate, instruct and inform all athletes, coaches and spectators of the code(s) of conduct that are enforced in the program.
  • Establishes a positive atmosphere and promotes quality customer service and experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise all contracted and volunteer coaches.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University. Experience is preferred but not required.

  • Must meet agency computer competency level requirements. Will utilize electronic communications via email, text and social media.
  • Must meet agency driver requirements. Must remain insurable under the Board’s fleet auto insurance policy. Will be required to drive agency vehicles.
  • Must maintain reliable transportation and work flexible hours based on MCBDD and the needs of the Special Olympics Medina program.
  • Available evenings and weekends for practices and competitions.
  • Must successfully complete all BCI/FBI background checks.
  • Must meet all requirements on corresponding job description.
Salary

To commensurate with education and experience. Minimum of at least $42,725 annually.
