Machine Tender

The Machine Tender supports daily production operations by assisting machine operators, monitoring equipment performance, and performing routine quality checks and maintenance activities. This role works on a day shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in a high-volume manufacturing environment and helps ensure that products meet customer specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Nut Forming and Heading Operators with daily machine operations to maintain consistent production flow.
  • Monitor production machines such as headers and rollers to ensure proper operation and promptly report any issues.
  • Perform regular part checks using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and visual inspections to verify that quality requirements are met.
  • Inspect components to confirm they meet customer and production specifications, documenting findings as required.
  • Carry out production duties including weight counting, lubricating parts, changing oil in machines, moving parts to different locations, logging production data, and dumping pans of parts.
  • Assist with pulling and changing tools during machine set-up and changeovers to support efficient production.
  • Implement lean manufacturing concepts, including continuous improvement activities, to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Assist with or perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment to reduce downtime and extend machine life.
  • Perform wire-up activities as needed to support machine operation and maintenance tasks.
  • Complete maintenance inspection sheets accurately and on time to document equipment condition and work performed.
  • Record statistical process control (SPC) data into Plex or other designated systems to support process monitoring and quality control.
  • Operate fabrication and machining equipment such as drill presses, mills, lathes, shears, saws, press brakes, and other production machinery as needed.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for machine setup, adjustment, and basic repair tasks.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to support machine setup, inspection, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support assembly and inspection processes by performing machine operation, assembly inspection, and fabrication inspection as required.
  • Assist with CNC and screw machine operations, including setup support and basic troubleshooting, under guidance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards and safety procedures.
  • Follow all safety requirements, including the use of required personal protective equipment, and immediately report any unsafe conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing experience in a production or machine operation environment.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and tape measures to verify part dimensions and quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with mechanical systems, demonstrating a strong interest in how machines and tools operate.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on production equipment under guidance.
  • Capability to assist with machine setup, changeovers, and adjustments using hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as moving parts, dumping pans, and handling materials throughout the shift.
  • Comfort working with fabrication and machining equipment, including drill presses, mills, lathes, shears, saws, and press brakes.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to support inspection and machine setup.
  • Experience with machine operation and inspection in a fabrication or machine shop environment.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and use inspection tools to ensure parts meet customer and production specifications.
  • Basic computer literacy to enter statistical process control data into systems such as Plex.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following standardized work and quality procedures.
  • Willingness to work in a non-temperature-controlled manufacturing environment and adhere to all safety requirements.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with machine setup, including changeovers and tool pulling, in a production environment.
  • Background in operating or assisting with CNC machines and screw machines.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience in fabrication machine shop operations and fabrication inspection.
  • Exposure to assembly operations and assembly inspection in a manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and power tools for maintenance and setup tasks.
  • Knowledge of press brake operation, saw operation, and shear operation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized production environment.
  • Interest in developing skills through structured training programs and internal certification opportunities.
