Residential Specialist - Discovery House - part time

Overview

Ohio Guidestone’s Medina program needs a part time Residential Advocate for women in recovery.

At Discovery Recovery, clients will have access to peer support and an on‑site house manager. The goal is to help women become stable in their recovery and maintain sober housing while living in a communal setting, with crisis intervention and medication as necessary.

Part time hours – available shifts

Wednesday 4 p‑12 p, Saturday 12 a‑8 a, Sunday 4 p‑12 a and 12 a‑8 a, and Monday 4 p‑12 a

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a peer/coach relationship with residents.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation per Agency standards, including client case notes, and inspect forms to ensure accuracy.
  • Professionally answer incoming calls to the house on the business line, convey messages to staff or clients, or forward to the appropriate department.
  • Supervise clients and assist in the care and environmental services of the home.
  • Act as a team player to ensure staff coverage for the home is maintained.
  • Promote the efficient and effective use of Agency resources, including both labor and consumable supplies.
  • Comply with and support others in complying with the Policies and Procedures of Ohio Guidestone.
  • Observe all rules of confidentiality as they relate to client information both internally and in dealing with outside individuals and/or agencies.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource on topics such as client rights and the procedures governing them.
  • Utilize empathic and active listening skills to provide emotional support to residents.
  • Provide linkage and referral services to residents when needed, assist in teaching needed skills related to activities of daily living, and advocate for residents as needed.
  • Handle crisis situations in a calm, quick, and efficient manner; when necessary call the House Manager, emergency services, or the appropriate authorities as the situation demands.
  • Promote positive staff/client interactions through role modeling and teaching.
  • Create a welcoming and calming atmosphere, and exhibit excellent role model skills to effectively resolve conflict.
  • Regularly administer urine drug screens on clients.
  • Maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with staff and clients.
  • Transport clients when needed to appointments or treatment meetings using a personal vehicle.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • May be involved in planning, organization, and implementation of special events or departmental projects or seasonal program changes.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote an inclusive work environment, and present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
Performance/Physical Requirements
  • Monitor the household and supervise residents’ activities in addition to crisis intervention as needed.
  • Be available to residents when they need to talk; be sensitive yet observant to log pertinent information for use by other staff.
  • Work is performed in a residential house, wherever residents go on the surrounding campus and in the community.
  • Advocate helps to acclimate new residents to the home and communal living.
  • Be able to ascend and descend stairs to perform routine checks on clients.
  • Be able to move or transport approximately a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Be responsible for the safety and well‑being of all residents.
  • Have English reading and writing skills.
  • Interact verbally with residents, families, co-workers, and representatives from outside agencies.
  • Show attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Be willing and able to work holidays.
