Adult Protective Services Specialist (Full-Time)
General Description
The Adult Protective Services Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Adult Protective Services Supervisor within Medina County Senior & Adult Services. Under the direction of the Supervisor, works with older adults and their families. May accept referrals of abuse/neglect/exploitation of adults as well as work with clients on an ongoing basis. Interviews and conducts abuse investigations. Works closely with law enforcement and service providers to ensure client safety.
Assists clients in improving their financial and social environment and works for the protection and safety of older adults.
Essential Job Functions
- Is familiar with and functions in accordance with the classification specifications and agency policies and procedures. Presents self in a professional, ethical and culturally sensitive manner to co-workers, staff, other agency personnel and the public.
- Demonstrates knowledge of ODJFS rules, State regulations, local laws and agency policy pertaining to protective services for adults. Completes all correspondence, case records and all required case and statistical reports. Enters data into computer programs used by the agency and State.
- Conducts culturally sensitive interviews with individuals for assessments, information gathering, community advocacy and conflict resolutions. Develops positive, trusting and helpful relationships with individuals and demonstrates understanding of the individual’s strengths and coping skills and an ability to assess them.
- Completes all necessary procedures and paperwork as defined by ODJFS rules and regulations, State and local laws and agency policy. Returns phone calls and correspondence in a timely manner, adhering to agency policy and time frames.
- Implements and develops plans of care for Adult Protective clients and reviews with family at least monthly, keeping objectives current and applicable. Provides ongoing case management to Adult Protective Services clients. Transports adults as needed. Maintains contact with adults and families through home visits, letters and phone calls as necessary.
- Understands the court process and prepares for and testifies in court with competence, knowing the case history, reason for court involvement, progress on the individual’s plan of care and the individual’s current status.
- Knows and regularly accesses agency and community resources for individuals. Works collaboratively with other Medina County Senior & Adult Services Staff.
- Participates in regular meetings with Adult I-Team and Medina County Prosecutor’s office.
- Keeps current on training requirements, attends required meetings and shares gained information with co-workers.
- Provides agency coverage as scheduled or when needed.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to job duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field; LSW preferred.
- 1-3 years experience in dealing with older adult population
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Ability to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
Hours of Employment: 8-4:30, M-F
