Summary

The Automation Engineer performs engineering technician duties in plant computer network systems management, control, instrumentation, and electronics. The role provides technical support to plant personnel, including after‑hours callouts, and supervises electricians and other wage positions related to automation engineering functions. The engineer also liaises between the corporate IT department and the plant to assist with minor on‑site IT activities.

What You’ll Be Contributing
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Manage computer automation hardware and software used in plant operations.
  • Manage programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and networks used in the plant.
  • Collaborate with staff on the design, installation, revision, and maintenance of all plant electrical and instrumentation systems, including new installations.
  • Maintain the security and integrity of all local area network (LAN) devices, equipment, and components such as servers, switches, and computers.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for plant LAN/WAN and telecommunication systems.
  • Maintain all plant information technology systems at the latest revision/version.
  • Ensure all systems operate at designed performance levels and coordinate computer technology changes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
To Succeed in This Position, You Will Need
  • Minimum 2‑year degree in Electricity/Electronics or a related field.
  • Preferred 4‑year degree in Electrical Engineering or Process Controls.
  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical or automation in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient written, verbal, and listening skills in English.
  • Proficient problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and control systems, instrumentation, computer operations, and related technical areas.
  • Ability to understand and operate computer software and hardware, and to use engineering and electronic equipment such as measuring devices, calculators, and computers.
  • Ability to work from general supervision on routine duties with specific instructions, and under close supervision on technical matters involving non‑routine duties.
Compensation
  • Base salary: $102,700 – $125,600
  • Eligible for a yearly bonus
  • Potential for geographic differential
