Overview

ACCEPT Education Collaborative is a regional non‑profit organization in Medway and Natick, MA that provides special education, transportation, home‑based services, behavioral and educational consultation, and professional development for students with moderate to severe needs. The organization offers programs for students from pre‑K to age 22, including life‑skills and therapeutic programs. The position is for teaching assistants in the Middle and High School programs, offering competitive compensation starting at $23.34 per hour and a collaborative, supportive work environment with ongoing training.

Qualifications

Required
  • 1–3 years of experience working with children and/or young adults
  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience
  • Safety Care certified or willing to obtain certification
  • Team player and dependable
  • Ability to follow direction well and work independently when needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Qualifications Desired
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Experience working in special education
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of a Special Education teacher and Behavior Specialist
  • Assist with classroom instruction and provide support to students
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive classroom environment
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to design and implement a system to track student progress
  • Provide assistance during non‑classroom time and arrange recreational activities
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions
Things To Do Daily
  • Arrive before students arrive and stay until all students are picked up, as directed
  • Check in with the teacher and behavior specialist daily
  • Ensure student clipboards and data sheets are prepared for the day
  • Keep classroom space clean, organized, and professional
  • Maintain a walkie‑talkie tuned to channel 7
  • Collect daily behavior and academic data
  • Implement individual student behavior support plans
  • Implement all student‑specific reinforcement schedules
  • Support the teacher during whole‑group lessons
  • Run small‑group lessons as needed
  • Implement individual student academic programming if applicable
  • Follow the schedule created by the classroom teacher
  • Create a professional, positive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Communicate any issues to the teacher and behavior specialist
  • Help complete incident and restraint reports
  • Read email and reply within 24 hours
  • Follow up with phone messages within 24 hours
  • Ensure classroom is cleaned and ready for the next day
Nonessential Functions
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Occasional travel and transfers between ACCEPT programs

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands include moving throughout the school building, remaining stationary for periods, reaching, lifting up to 20 lbs, hand strength for tools, using computers, and communicating with students, parents, and staff. The role requires seeing and hearing continuously and occasional running across uneven surfaces. The work environment is a normal school setting with acceptable noise levels; the position is not remote.
