Position: Special Education Teacher - High School - ANTICIPATED OPENING

Position Summary

To provide educational and behavioral consultation services to help ACCEPT programs build capacity to serve students with low incidence disabilities.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited university.
  • Valid Massachusetts Teacher of Students with Moderate and/or Severe Disabilities License.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role.
  • Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Proven ability to use data to develop, implement and track progress related to Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  • A patient, resilient, resourceful, collaborative and compassionate personality.
  • Excellent ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications Desired
  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Conduct educational assessments, write reports, and present findings at Team meetings.
  • Construct lesson plans that meet the standards of MA frameworks and differentiate lessons based on students’ assessed abilities.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs for each student assigned.
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports and report cards.
  • Collaborate with related service providers and coordinate services for assigned students.
  • Provide information and support to parents, colleagues, administrators and District liaisons as appropriate.
  • Coordinate completion of progress reports and Team meeting materials with related service providers.
  • Prepare and plan instruction that aligns with State Frameworks and IEPs.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Special Education, develop and implement student schedules to ensure that student goals are addressed meaningfully.
  • Create a differentiated learning environment, adapted to individual student’s learning needs, strengths, learning style, and communication & behavioral needs.
  • Create a learning environment with embedded visual supports and established routines to maximize student independence.
  • In collaboration with colleagues, collect baseline data for academic, behavioral, and social areas using formative and summative assessments, collect data multiple times throughout the school year, analyze data, and create and implement necessary academic, social, and emotional strategies.
  • Through the use of data collection, classroom behavior, collaboration with colleagues and observations, analyze student behavior, adjust classroom management techniques, and create and implement necessary interventions to improve student behavioral outcomes.
  • Manage classroom crisis and resolve conflict.
  • Prepare students for transition to the next grade.
  • Supervise, train and coach Teaching Assistants.
  • Respond to all email requests within 24 hours.
Nonessential Functions
  • Occasional travel between all of the collaborative’s locations.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Executive Director.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

Regular movement around the school building, occasional stair climbing or bending, and periods of standing or sitting. May require lifting up to 20 lbs and occasionally restraining a student. Use of computer and other office equipment common. Requires continuous hearing and visual acuity to ensure student safety and comply with communication demands. Occasional running across uneven surfaces. Normal school environment with acceptable noise level.
