Position: Teaching Assistant - ACCEPT at Medway High School

Job Description

ACCEPT Education Collaborative is a regional non‑profit educational organization located in Medway, Massachusetts. We provide a wide range of special education programs and services for students from pre‑K through age 22. The position is for a teaching assistant in our Middle and High School programs.

Position type:
Full‑time. Salary: $23–$32 per hour.

Start date:

Immediately. Final date to receive applications:

Qualifications Required
  • 1–3 years of experience working with children and/or young adults.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Safety Care certified or willing to obtain certification.
  • Team player, dependable and able to work independently when necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, multitask, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience and desire to work with students with special needs.
  • Compassion and patience.
Qualifications Desired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience working in special education.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the Special Education teacher and Behavior Specialist.
  • Assist with classroom instruction and provide support and guidance to students.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, supportive classroom environment.
  • Work closely with the lead teacher to design and implement a classroom system to track student progress.
  • Provide assistance during non‑classroom time and arrange recreational activities.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
Things To Do Daily
  • Arrive prepared before students arrive and stay until all students are picked up, as directed.
  • Check in daily with the teacher and behavior specialist.
  • Ensure student clipboards/data sheets are set for the day.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintain a walkie‑talkie tuned to channel 7.
  • Collect daily behavior and academic data.
  • Implement individual student behavior support plans and reinforcement schedules.
  • Support teacher during whole‑group lessons and run small group lessons as needed.
  • Implement individual student academic programming when applicable.
  • Follow the schedule created by the classroom teacher.
  • Communicate any issues to teacher/behavior specialist.
  • Complete incident and restraint reports.
  • Respond to email within 24 hours and follow up on phone messages within 24 hours.
  • Ensure classroom is cleaned and ready for next day.
Nonessential Functions

Other duties as assigned. Occasional travel and transfer between ACCEPT programs to fulfill teaching assistant responsibilities at any location.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires moving about the school, occasional standing and prolonged periods of sitting, reaching, kneeling, and possible physical restraint of a student during behavioral escalation. Lifting up to 20 lbs may be required. The candidate must be able to use a computer and read materials. The position is a normal school environment; not remote.
