School Psychologist Position Summary

To provide psychological support for all students through evaluations, consultation, tier 1 and 3 data evaluation, and intervention support for roughly 150 students. Support all staff in maintaining high expectations for students by consulting on a wide range of academic, mental health, and behavioral supports so that students can access their full potential. The School Psychologist facilitates collaboration and integration of special education services by all stakeholders and service providers and is involved in all domains of the NASP practice model.

Valid Massachusetts DESE Professional Support Personnel license in School Psychology is required. Additional content area license is encouraged.

Master’s Degree in school psychology with a supervised internship.

• Experience evaluating student skills and writing reports interpreting/summarizing findings.
• Conduct requested evaluations and written reports for students across ACCEPT school programs, and any district requests.
• Implement best practices in School Psychology.
• Apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
• Present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, and the general public.
• Expertise in special education law.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously.
• Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and ACCEPT’s policies.
• Work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs in an equitable and inclusive manner that demonstrates cultural proficiency.
• Maintain appropriate confidential records; react professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g., environmental changes, behavior/aggression, seizure activity).
• Strong understanding and use of technology and computers.
• Plan, coordinate, conduct, and participate in ongoing professional and staff development.
• Strong collaborative, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming and work in a team setting.
• Proactive and solution-focused approach to meeting student needs.
• Knowledge of specialized content areas as well as related laws and procedures.
• Safe de‑escalation of students in crises and response to challenging behaviors.
• Provide advice and expertise to teachers and the school community to support the creation of appropriate and effective academic, behavioral, and social/emotional learning experiences for students.

• Assessment:
  Complete comprehensive psycho‑educational assessments in accordance with federal and state special education regulations and ACCEPT policy in cognitive, academic, social/emotional, behavioral, adaptive behavior, sensory/motor, and other factors pertinent to the child’s learning capacity. Interpret assessment findings to students, parents, staff and others concerned with student welfare.
• Prevention:
  Assist in the identification of students at risk of educational failure and in school‑wide initiatives to make schools safer and conducive to learning.
• Intervention/Counseling:
  Assist in the planning and implementation of behavior management programs and behavioral support plans. Provide crisis counseling and intervention and assist with individual and group counseling to address academic, social, and developmental concerns.
