Position Summary:
To provide direct specialized instruction in unified arts, cultivating skill, creativity, and self-expression, as well as adapted to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and challenges of students with disabilities. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing an adaptive art curriculum that is engaging, supportive, and accessible to all students. This role is highly collaborative, requiring close partnership with special education teams, therapists, and families to support each student's holistic development.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited university
- Minimum of 1 year experience as an Art Teacher or relevant role
- Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Art (K-12) and/or education. Additional content area license is encouraged. Please note that licensure requirements are subjected to change at the discretion of DESE.

- Great interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications Desired:
- Master’s Degree in Education or a related field
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Plans an art therapy program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and or volunteer(s)/intern(s)
- Attend staff meetings, as necessary
- Participate in staff development programs
- Respond to all email requests within 48 hours
- Travel between all of the collaborative’s locations to provide services

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and perform physical restraint of a student at times of behavioral escalation.
