The After-Hours On-Call Private Duty Aide provides dependable, responsive coverage for last-minute and urgent private care needs that arise outside of normal business hours. This position is specifically designed to support continuity of care when a regularly scheduled caregiver becomes unexpectedly unavailable, an urgent client need arises, or immediate staffing coverage is required.
The On-Call Private Duty Aide must be prepared to accept assignments with limited notice during designated on-call periods and travel to clients' homes within the agency's service area. This role requires a high level of flexibility, reliability, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring clients receive safe and consistent care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Remain available and responsive during assigned on-call periods to provide last-minute client coverage.
- Accept urgent assignments when contacted by the Private Care on-call team.
- Report to client homes within the expected timeframe following notification of an assignment.
- Provide temporary or emergency coverage when a regularly scheduled caregiver calls out or is otherwise unavailable.
- Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living in accordance with the client's established plan of care.
- Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, transfers, ambulation, and other approved personal care needs.
- Provide companionship, supervision, and safety monitoring as required by the client's plan of care.
- Assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and other approved homemaking responsibilities.
- Provide medication reminders when permitted by agency policy and the client's plan of care.
- Observe and promptly report changes in a client's condition, safety concerns, falls, hospitalizations, or other significant events to the appropriate supervisor or on-call representative.
- Follow client-specific instructions and established plans of care.
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established time frames.
- Maintain client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all agency policies and procedures.
- Communicate professionally with clients, families, coworkers, and members of the Private Care team.
- Provide a dependable and reassuring presence for clients and families during unexpected staffing situations.
On Call Expectiations:
This position requires a higher level of availability and flexibility than a traditional per diem caregiver position. During an assigned on-call period, the employee is expected to:
- Remain reachable by telephone and respond promptly when contacted.
- Maintain the ability to report to an assigned client's home on short notice.
- Be prepared to work with different clients and at different locations within the designated service area.
- Maintain reliable transportation throughout the assigned on-call period.
- Accept urgent assignments consistent with the employee's qualifications and agency requirements.
- Remain available for the duration of the designated on-call period unless released by the agency.
- Communicate immediately if circumstances arise that could affect the employee's ability to respond to an assignment.
Qualifications:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification preferred or required based on agency and client needs.
- Previous private duty, home care, assisted living, long-term care, or related caregiving experience preferred.
- Current CPR certification, if required by agency policy.
- Ability to provide personal care safely and appropriately within the employee's scope of practice.
- Demonstrated reliability and ability to work independently in clients' homes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to unfamiliar clients, homes, routines, and care needs.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to urgent staffing situations.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
- Ability to meet all agency employment, background check, health screening, and training requirements.
