As the
** Senior Accountant**, you will be responsible for managing the month-end close process, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll accounting, and tax compliance, while ensuring compliance with applicable government regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the defense contractor industry, exceptional analytical skills, and advanced Microsoft Excel expertise.  The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in documenting work processes and internal controls, along with a genuine interest in automating workflows and driving continuous process improvement.

* KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*** Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
* Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
* Prepare financial reports for management and external stakeholders.
* Identify and lead opportunities to automate workflows and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
* Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and other government contracting requirements.
* Support DCAA audits and other government compliance reviews.
* Document accounting workflows, desk procedures, and internal controls to support audit readiness and knowledge continuity.
* Prepare supporting documentation, schedules, and work papers for federal, state, local, and international tax filings, including payroll, sales and use, income, and other business tax returns, coordinating with external tax advisors and international tax teams as needed.
* Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations and assist with year-end tax reporting.
* Perform gross-to-net payroll reconciliations, ensuring payroll expenses, taxes, benefits, deductions, and accruals are accurately recorded in the general ledger.
* Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including wages, payroll taxes, benefits, and employee deductions.
* Prepare and review payroll journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the month-end close process.
* Partner with Human Resources and Payroll to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

* EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

*** Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
* Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years within the defense contractor industry.
* CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
** KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
*** Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirements.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Experience with Deltek Costpoint systems preferred.
* Experience with payroll accounting, tax compliance, and gross-to-net reconciliations preferred.
* Experience preparing supporting documentation for state, local, and international tax filings preferred.
* Experience documenting accounting workflows, desktop procedures, and internal controls (e.g., SOPs, control narratives).
* Demonstrated interest in automating workflows and driving process improvements using Excel, Costpoint, or other ERP/automation tools.
* Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively.
