Position Title

Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) – Preventive & Periodontal Care

  • Compensation: $45.00–$75.00 per hour or daily rate, based on experience
Position Overview

Florida Prosthodontics in Rockledge, FL is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Registered Dental Hygienist to provide exceptional preventive and periodontal care. We are filling full-time and part-time/PRN roles in a busy restorative and surgical practice. The ideal candidate is clinically excellent, gentle and personable with patients, strong at patient education, and meticulous with documentation. You will work closely with the doctors and assisting team to support outstanding patient outcomes and a great patient experience.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Hygiene Care
  • Perform prophylaxis (cleanings), scaling and root planning, and periodontal maintenance therapy.
  • Conduct comprehensive periodontal assessments, including charting pocket depths, recession, bleeding points, and mobility.
  • Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride, sealants, and desensitizing agents.
  • Perform and document oral cancer screenings and head/neck exams.
  • Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide where permitted by Florida scope and certification.
Assessment, Imaging & Documentation
  • Expose, capture, and store digital radiographs (intraoral, panoramic) per current Florida dental radiography requirements.
  • Take intraoral photographs and digital scans as needed and link them accurately to the patient record.
  • Review and update medical/dental histories and flag findings or concerns for the doctor.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the practice-management software (e.g., Dentrix).
Patient Education & Experience
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, home care, periodontal health, and the link between oral and overall health.
  • Support treatment‑plan communication and case acceptance in partnership with the doctor.
  • Build trust and rapport that drives patient retention and referrals.
Sterilization, Compliance & Operations
  • Set up, break down, and sterilize instruments and operatories per OSHA and CDC infection‑control standards.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, the Florida Board of Dentistry, and practice protocols.
  • Monitor and restock hygiene operatory supplies; collaborate with the team to keep the schedule running smoothly.
Qualifications Required
  • Active Florida Dental Hygienist license in good standing.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.
  • Current Florida dental radiography certification / qualification to expose radiographs.
  • Current BLS / CPR certification.
  • Strong knowledge of periodontal therapy, preventive care, and dental terminology.
  • Proficiency with dental practice‑management / EHR software and digital imaging.
  • Excellent communication, chairside manner, and attention to detail.
Preferred
  • Florida certification to administer local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide.
  • Experience with periodontal maintenance and implant maintenance.
  • Experience with Dentrix and intraoral scanners.
  • New graduates with strong clinical skills are encouraged to apply.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform repetitive, precise hand movements.
  • Manual dexterity and close‑vision acuity for detailed chairside work.
  • Routine exposure to a clinical environment, including blood borne pathogens, sharps, and dental materials, with appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
