Responsibilities
  • Assist to prepare for and conduct in-person and virtual Career Camp sessions as needed.
  • Meet with the Career Camp team to prepare for sessions prior to and after each session.
  • Organize guest speakers and schedule student field trips.
  • Contribute to in-person and virtual classroom activities or games; aid in the teaching of PowerPoint materials.
  • Ensure student questions are answered in-person or virtually; assist students with technical issues as needed.
  • Take student attendance before and after class and ensure correct roster attendance; track hours for billing purposes.
  • Assist students to create a positive learning environment.
  • Complete other administrative tasks as needed and as directed.
Position Details

THIS POSITION IS AN IN-PERSON SUMMER TEACHING POSITION.

PAY RATE: $20.00 AN HOUR.

Core Classes and Schedule

There are three core classes:
Work Readiness Training, Self-Advocacy, and Career Camps. Work Readiness and Self Advocacy classes are 20 hours each and are conducted on two consecutive weekends during the school year and on weekdays throughout summer and longer breaks. Career Camps occur during longer school breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter & Spring Break, Summer Break) with 25–35 hours per week during scheduled periods. A typical day is 9 am–4 pm.

Some days may include 9 am–2:30 pm for Work Readiness and Self Advocacy sessions.

Essential Functions
  • Assists to prepare for and conduct in-person and virtual Career Camp sessions.
  • Meets with the Career Camp team to prepare for sessions and post-session planning.
  • Organizes guest speakers; schedules student field trips.
  • Contributes to classroom activities or games; aids in teaching with PowerPoint materials.

  • Takes attendance and tracks hours for billing.
  • Supports a positive learning environment for students.

Skills & Abilities

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field preferred.

Experience: Teaching experience recommended;
Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint experience recommended; experience with students with IEPs and 504 Plans required; vocational training experience preferred.

Background Screening: This position requires level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Applicants can learn more about the screening process at:

Computer Skills: Strong preference for candidates with Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint experience.

  • Must be willing to commit to the duration of all scheduled Career Camps.
  • Must be able to teach in-person.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Must have own computer, printer, smartphone with data plan, and high-speed internet connection.
Supervision and Travel

Supervision: No supervisory requirements.

Travel: No travel necessary.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Environment:
In-person classroom setting and community-based setting.

Physical:
Standing, walking, and prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds as needed.

Vision:
See within the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.

Hearing:
Hear within the normal audio range with or without correction.
