Special Education Teacher

Position Overview

Devereux Florida provides programs and services for children and adolescents who face significant emotional, behavioral and intellectual/developmental challenges. This Teachers – Viera Campus role is responsible for delivering intensive, comprehensive therapeutic education to students age 6-17 within a four to six month treatment period.

• Subjects teaching: Self‑contained, Middle School for the Children Unit
• Start Pay Range: $52,000 - $60,990 / annual, based on education and experience
• Work hours: 8:00 am–4:00 pm (School hours: 9:00 am–3:00 pm)
• Location: Viera, FL

• Communicates course content clearly and effectively to students
• Demonstrates mastery of subject matter
• Provides intensive services to children and adolescents (6‑17 years of age) within a four to six month treatment period
• Delivers a comprehensive therapeutic approach based on the individual needs of the client and their family
• Works with clients having emotional, behavioral, and psychological problems stemming from histories of physical abuse and/or sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, unresolved trauma, or psychological conditions that hinder functioning in a family environment

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year university required.
• Florida Educator Certificate (Elementary Education and ESE Preferred) or current eligibility status required.
• Experience in teaching individuals with autism (preferred).
• Preferred:
  Minimum of three years experience working with Emotional‑Behavioral Disability students.

• Must complete a two‑week new‑hire orientation class (hours: approx. 9:00 am–5:00 pm each day in Titusville).
• School year is year‑round (49‑week instruction with 3 weeks summer break).

• Valid driver’s license
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
• Successfully pass pre‑employment medical screenings, including drug screen, physical exam, and TB test.
• Successfully pass a Level 2 background screening with the State of Florida (more info: ).
