Florida Tech is seeking a dedicated and student‑centric Academic Advisor to join our Office of Student Advising. In this role, you will serve as a primary guide for undergraduate students majoring within the College of Aeronautics—from their first day on campus to graduation. You will empower students to make informed educational decisions, navigate university policies, and develop comprehensive academic plans that align with their personal and career aspirations.

The mission of the Office of Student Advising is to assist all undergraduate students at Florida Tech by providing advising and programming geared toward student success. We are a team committed to increasing student awareness of university requirements, collaborating across departments to meet individual needs, and providing educational and social events that enrich the student experience.
Key Responsibilities 1. Holistic Academic Advising- Provide personalized, one‑on‑one advising to undergraduate first‑time‑in‑college (FTIC), returning, and transfer students.
- Guide students through course and flight block registration in alignment with their major's degree plan and the nuances of academic core and departmental requirements.
- Assist students in identifying long‑term goals and career plans, ensuring their academic path supports their future professional life.
- Utilize advising technology and degree audit software to monitor student progress and maintain precise records.
- Collaborate with the Registrar’s office and academic departments to resolve registration issues and verify graduation eligibility.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all student records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
- Act as a vital liaison between the Office of Student Advising and various colleges/departments to stay updated on curriculum changes and departmental policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for parents and guardians within the scope of FERPA.
- Participate in New Student Orientation, including the delivery of content and post‑event evaluation.
- Connect students with essential campus resources, including academic support, accessibility resources, and wellness services.
- Promote student engagement by encouraging participation in civic opportunities, student organizations, undergraduate research, internships, and honor societies.
- Act as a Campus Security Authority for Clery Act reporting to ensure a safe campus environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Aviation Management, or a related field preferred).
- Experience: Prior experience in academic advising, student affairs, or a related educational setting is highly valued; specific background knowledge in Aviation, Aeronautics, or Flight Training is highly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate to a diverse student population.
- Proficiency in advising technology and data management systems.
- A deep commitment to student success and the ability to "cheer students on" through their academic journey.
- Knowledge of university policy and procedures is a plus.
