The CNS (Communication, Navigation & Surveillance) Mechanical Engineering Group in Melbourne, Florida is seeking a mechanical design engineer responsible for electronics packaging design of commercial avionics. The role focuses on supporting existing product designs and building expertise in electronic packaging, with an eventual shift into full product design for more complex modules and complete products.

What you will do
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to develop solutions to production and field problems.
  • Utilize the Siemens NX CAD system to research product designs, troubleshoot issues, and design solutions.
  • Participate in module‑level redesign.
  • Support printed circuit card layouts.
  • Support analytical activities such as thermal, structural, and tolerance analyses.
  • Create design mockups including 3D printing of prototype parts.
  • Assist in environmental testing (vibration, temperature, humidity).
  • Develop design and modification documentation.
  • Maintain excellent oral and written communication skills and collaborate effectively across disciplines within Collins Aerospace.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and manage multiple tasks and assignments.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Person status, as access to ITAR or EAR information is required.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Mechanical Engineering degree is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT).
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods and material usage for sheet metal and machined parts.
  • Demonstrated electronic packaging design experience.

Salary Range
: 57,200 USD – 108,800 USD. This range is a good‑faith estimate. RTX considers role, function, responsibilities, experience, location, education, and key skills when extending an offer.
