Electrical Engineer II
• On-Site, Melbourne, FL
• Contract (12 months)
• 9x80
• 1st Shift • $70-$85/hr
• Defense & Aerospace industry
Join a collaborative engineering team where you'll take ownership of complex electronic designs from concept through production, working on cutting‑edge hardware and high‑speed systems. In this hands‑on role you balance performance, cost, and manufacturability while solving real‑world challenges in the lab and alongside cross‑functional teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail‑oriented engineer who enjoys full lifecycle design, technical problem‑solving, and delivering high‑reliability solutions.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Design, develop, analyze, and support testing of electronic systems, subsystems, and CCAs across multiple engineering disciplines
- Own end‑to‑end CCA development, including schematic design, bring‑up, debugging, validation, and delivery on time and within budget
- Troubleshoot and resolve system and component‑level issues, implementing design improvements and validating results through testing
- Interpret customer requirements and specifications to develop cost‑effective, manufacturable design solutions
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturers to support procurement, fabrication, and production readiness
- Develop prototypes to mitigate technical risks and support design‑to‑cost and design‑for‑manufacture objectives
- Communicate technical progress, risks, and design decisions clearly while supporting documentation, reporting, and team collaboration
- Cadence schematic capture; navigate Allegro
- Personally owned CCA designs: designed, built, bring‑up, debug, test, deliver on time/budget (not support/adjacent)
- Conservative, margin‑aware, long‑life design choices
- Explain design decisions (written/oral); SWaP‑C tradeoffs
- Simulate circuits (SPICE or similar)
- Support procurement/fab: select alternates; answer PCB/CM technical questions
- Bring‑up new CCAs from scratch; troubleshoot HW vs FW/SW
- Define rework and write clear technician instructions
- Perform/document lab testing (thermal, scopes, DAQ, etc.)
Design areas: High‑speed digital (processors, FPGAs, MCUs; DDRx/flash/EEPROM); interfaces PCIe/USB/Ethernet to 10G/serial/LVDS/DP/HDMI; point‑of‑load power (SMPS + linear).
Nice to have: Allegro PCB layout/drawings; rugged cable design/drawing notes; VHDL/Verilog; mentoring/task leadership.
What You’ll Bring- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
- Minimum 3 years of experience owning CCA designs from concept through delivery, including hands‑on bring‑up, debug, and test
- Minimum 3 years of experience with high‑speed interfaces such as PCIe, USB, Ethernet (up to 10G), LVDS, Display Port, and HDMI
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience with power design, including point‑of‑load solutions using switching (SMPS) and linear regulators
- Proficiency with Cadence tools (schematic capture and Allegro) and experience with circuit simulation tools such as SPICE
- Strong background in high‑speed digital design (processors, FPGAs, MCUs) and memory interfaces (DDRx, flash, EEPROM)
- Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries and perform detailed lab testing (e.g., oscilloscopes, thermal, DAQ)
- Experience supporting manufacturing and procurement, including component selection, alternate sourcing, and supplier engagement
- Strong understanding of design‑to‑cost, SWaP‑C tradeoffs, and long‑life, margin‑aware design practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions and collaborate effectively across teams
- Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
- Successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required.
