Principal Electrical Engineer – Collins Aerospace

Work with the Computing Solutions Department (CSD) within Displays, Computing, and Networking to lead the design, certification, and lifecycle support of next‑generation avionics computing platforms that integrate FPGAs, ASICs, and MPSoCs with key avionics protocols (ARINC
429, Ethernet, AFDX, PCIe, CAN, RS‑232, DDR, I2C, SPI).

Responsibilities
  • Lead circuit card and sub‑level module development, product certification, transition, and sustainment across the design life cycle.
  • Serve as Certification Focal and own the Plan for Hardware Aspects of Certification (PHAC) and all associated hardware development and verification plans.
  • Drive the reuse of lifecycle artifacts and promote a product‑line focus to maximize design and certification efficiency.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, solve complex technical issues, and lead cross‑functional engineering teams (EE, ME, FPGA, Systems, Manufacturing, Test) through PDR, CDR, TRR, and other project reviews.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or equivalent; advanced degree preferred. Minimum 8years of relevant experience (or 5years with an advanced degree).
  • Proven experience in hardware design lifecycle, from schematic capture and PCB layout to production and certification.
  • Strong knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed‑signal design principles; familiarity with industry standards (IPC‑2221, IPC‑A‑610, MIL‑STD‑461/810/704, DO‑160).
  • Experience in formal design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and interpreting system‑level requirements into hardware specifications.
  • Leadership in a small engineering team, including mentoring, reviewing work products, and coordinating development activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of DO‑254, AC20‑152A certification objectives and COTS device assessments.
  • Understanding of Design‑to‑Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
  • Experience with MPSoC architectures and board‑level integration of heterogeneous processors.
  • Experience establishing hardware reference architectures and developing product‑line solutions for reuse and scalability.
