Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer or a Principal Systems Engineer in Electromagnetic Environment Effects (EEE) to join our Systems Engineering Team. This position is located on‑site in Palmdale, CA, and Melbourne, FL.
The role performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of the total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. The engineer ensures logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total system solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- All programs have E3 requirements, so an E3 engineer must be capable of writing, interpreting, allocating, tailoring and flowing down E3 requirements to all design levels.
- E3 engineers must possess strong technical communication skills and be ready to explain complex technical issues with brevity to audiences unfamiliar with E3.
- E3 engineers present at design reviews to internal and external customers regarding E3 issues.
- The engineer must be capable of writing E3 design guidelines, developing models and performing analyses on components, subsystems and systems using EMI principles.
- E3 engineers design ground systems, chassis and harness shielding, EMI filters, and select and lay out interface circuitry for achieving EMC.
- E3 engineers prepare and review E3 test procedures, reports, technical analyses, control plans, and participate in cross‑discipline design reviews for EMC.
- To verify E3 requirements, an E3 engineer designs test procedures and participates in E3 testing in accordance with governmental and non‑governmental standards such as MIL‑STD 461, MIL‑STD 464, and DO‑160.
- Experienced E3 engineers at Northrop Grumman mentor less experienced engineers and help maintain the company’s reputation for E3 expertise and quality.
- E3 engineers contribute to overall knowledge and expertise in E3 engineering capability by developing processes, procedures, documentation, and protocols for the practice of E3 engineering at Northrop Grumman.
- (Principal) Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience.
- (Sr. Principal) Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 6 years of experience.
- Active DOD Secret Security Clearance.
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain special program access before the start of employment.
- Experience with MIL‑STD‑464 or MIL‑STD‑461.
- 1 year of experience in RF, test or design engineering.
