Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Reliability Maintainability and Safety (RMS) Engineer with experience in working with electronic and mechanical systems for military and commercial avionic platforms. This role will be worked onsite in Melbourne, FL. Relocation assistance is available. U.S. citizenship is required. Security clearance is not required.
What You Will Do- Supports program development through the application of reliability and maintainability techniques.
- Participates in all phases of program life cycle, utilizing reliability and maintainability methodologies in systems engineering processes in accordance with commercial and military standards.
- Provides support to reliability and maintainability modelling and predictions analysis, testability analysis, maintainability and built‑in‑test demonstrations, environmental testing, FMEA/FMECA, and FRACAS.
- Performs Accelerated Stress Testing (AST) and develops Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) profiles, including HALT/HASS and Reliability Enhancement Test (RET) procedures and reports, overseeing and conducting testing, conducting failure review board meetings, and defining corrective actions.
- Serves as a Reliability & Maintainability representative to engineering and business leadership.
- Performs safety assessment process in accordance with ARP
4761 or MIL‑STD‑882E, including system safety program plans, functional hazard assessments, preliminary system safety assessments, system safety assessments, fault tree analyses, and common mode analyses. - Supports systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
- Reviews design and development documentation for safety‑critical equipment and analysis from peer safety engineers.
- Mentors and trains less‑experienced reliability engineers.
- Responsible for committed work and responsibilities toward team members and organizational leadership.
- Develops and maintains expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc.).
- Collaborates with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans.
- Hands‑on experience working on groundbreaking avionics systems with industry‑leading tools and technologies.

- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Experience in safety‑critical systems and familiarity with ARP
4761 or MIL‑STD‑882E safety standards. - Knowledge of the systems engineering life cycle and application of reliability and maintainability techniques to systems requirements.
- Experience supporting design and development teams in developing, assessing, and verifying reliability & maintainability related requirements for safety‑critical systems.
- Experience in conducting or developing Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA), reliability & maintainability analysis and predictions, failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS), built‑in‑test design/verification analysis, and/or testability analysis.
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
- Working knowledge of ARP
4761 or MIL‑STD‑882E, basic knowledge of ARP
4754A, DO‑254, DO‑178B/C, and DO‑297. - Experience using tools and databases such as Quanterion 217 Plus, MiLHDBK 217 NPRD, and FMD‑2016.
- Experience with aircraft or electronic systems and basic circuit analysis skills.
- Experience planning and conducting Accelerated Stress Testing or willingness to learn HALT, RET, ESS, and HASS techniques.
- Experience with CAFTA or similar fault‑tree analysis tools, or willingness to learn.
