SUMMARY

The Construction Drafter is responsible for preparing, revising, and maintaining engineering and construction drawings that support active construction projects. Working under the direction of engineers, project managers, and discipline leads, this position provides drafting and design support across multiple engineering disciplines, ensuring that construction documents accurately reflect field conditions, design revisions, and client requirements.

This role requires close coordination with construction personnel, engineering teams, and document control to produce timely, accurate drawings that facilitate successful project execution.

Reports to the Construction Services (CS) Group Manager or Lead Construction Engineer and works closely with discipline engineers, project managers, construction managers, and field personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare, revise, and maintain construction drawings for active engineering and construction projects.
  • Provide drafting support for Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Process/Piping, and Architectural disciplines within the Construction Services (CS) Group.
  • Incorporate engineering design revisions, RFIs, field changes, and redline markups into construction drawings.
  • Produce as‑built drawings based on field documentation and engineering direction.
  • Coordinate drawing revisions with engineers, project managers, construction managers, and document control personnel.
  • Verify drawing accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company drafting standards.
  • Assist in preparing construction work packages, installation details, sketches, and exhibit drawings.
  • Maintain drawing files, revision histories, and document control procedures.
  • Support multiple projects while meeting schedules and deadlines.
  • Participate in project meetings and perform field verification/site visits as needed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's Degree (2-year) in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Graphics, or a related technical field.
  • 2–5 years of drafting experience supporting industrial, commercial, or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with Micro Station, Civil 3D, Revit, or other CAD software preferred.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, drafting standards, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and field markups.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of engineering drafting principles and construction practices.
  • Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with construction drawing packages and engineering specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting engineering consulting or EPC firms.
  • Experience with document management systems.
  • Familiarity with laser scanning, point cloud data, or 3D modeling.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, ISO, or client-specific drafting standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The work is semi‑sedentary and requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, typing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
  • Ability to navigate and move around the construction site, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stand and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed two hours consecutively.
  • Ability to control behavior when encountering stressful situations or short deadlines and to maintain a high level of concentration.
  • Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols that are legible and understood by others.
  • Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Primarily office-based with periodic visits to active construction sites.
  • Compliance with site safety requirements and PPE.
  • Occasional travel and overtime may be required.
