Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Electrical Engineer/Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Test & Evaluation organization. The role may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level based on qualifications. This position is located in Melbourne, FL and is an individual contributor with no direct reports. Due to classified work, no virtual or telecommute options are offered.
Responsibilities- Design electrical harness assemblies connecting sensors (vibration, temperature, pressure, etc.), data acquisition units, network switches, power distribution equipment, digital bus interfaces, antennas, transmitters, data recorders, and other WRA elements within the Instrumentation subsystem.
- Produce Product Definition Packages (PDPs) including wiring diagrams, schematics, and formboard/stick drawings for flight, ground, lab, and specialty test articles.
- Collaborate with subsystem responsible engineers, various IPTs, and design stakeholders to ensure PDPs meet requirements for each test article.
- Support shipside troubleshooting during manufacturing and test execution.
- Work with electrical CAD tools (Capital Harness, AutoCAD Electrical, Harnes Sys) in accordance with SAE AS50881, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and mil‑spec/commercial practices.
- Familiarity with EMI shielding, separation requirements, and harness fabrication shops.
- Work independently under general supervision and collaborate within a multi‑disciplined Integrated Product Team (IPT).
- Perform work in a fast‑paced environment with high expectations and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
- Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience, or Master of Science in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience, or STEM Ph.D. and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in‑scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any required program access(es).
- Experience in instrumentation.
- Advanced proficiency with Siemens Capital, Harne Sys, or AutoCAD electrical design software.
- Advanced proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management software.
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
