Northrop Grumman has an opening for an Engineer/Principal Engineer – Survivability to join our team in Melbourne, FL. The Survivability Engineer will enhance the survivability of defense systems through advanced materials and processes. This position will involve research and technology development activities and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Duties- Develop and integrate advanced technology to reduce detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic spectrum.
- Develop and implement predictive analysis codes; build and test physical models; design, develop, and build test and verification equipment; and develop, test, and integrate specialty materials.
- Work closely with engineers of other disciplines to optimize integration of this technology on existing and future aircraft.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. This position does not offer remote, hybrid, or telework. Travel up to 25% may be required.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience, or Master's degree in a STEM discipline and no required engineering experience (LV2). For Principal Engineer (LV3):
Bachelor's in STEM + 5 years experience, or Master's + 3 years, or PhD + 1 year. - Applied electromagnetics and/or aircraft survivability; or thorough understanding of electromagnetic energy transmission through space and materials.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, Unigraphics, or NX.
- Ability to maintain an adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any required program access within a reasonable period.
- Experience in signature integration, RCS design, analysis, and testing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with CAE and/or FEA tools (e.g., FMS, Patran, Cubit).
- Proven experience with 3D Method of Moments (MoM) such as SENTRi and 3D Physical Optics (PO) codes such as Xpatch.
- Programming experience in C++, MATLAB, Python, or other technical languages.
- Knowledge of RCS data processing tools such as Knowbell, Saber, or Pioneer.
- Active U.S. Government issued Top Secret security clearance and/or prior SAP/SAR clearance.

Salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
