ABOUTTHE ROLE
As the AVP & Actuary, you will lead all actuarial functions for a rapidly growing insurance company. This high-visibility role offers direct interaction with Orion
180’s executive team and external partners, giving you the opportunity to shape the company’s future. You’ll drive continuous improvement in pricing and reserving processes while applying innovative approaches to traditional actuarial challenges.
- Lead and grow a team of actuarial analysts to support Orion
180’s business. - Execute quarterly and annual reserving process, including interaction with leaders across Orion
180, external actuaries and auditors, and preparing reports and presentations for senior leadership. - Lead all pricing work for the company—existing admitted and non-admitted products as well as new state and product expansion. Refine quarterly rate adequacy reviews for both non-catastrophe and catastrophe exposures.
- Work closely with Enterprise Risk Management and Data Science on catastrophe modeling and interpretation as well as pricing model building and development.
- Assist in providing information and analysis to key external stakeholders (investors, reinsurers, auditors).
- Lead strategy in the design and development of next-generation insurance products and internal modeling.
- Build a strategic roadmap for enhancements to actuarial discipline and practice.
- Implement new pricing and reserving tools and look to implement AI-based improvements to actuarial processes.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in similar work. ACAS or FCAS is required for this position.
- Industry
Experience:
5+ years of actuarial experience necessary. Experience working closely with business units and P&L management (rather than in a corporate role) would be highly preferred. - Management
Experience:
2+ years of experience managing teams and projects. Proven positive leadership experience with the ability to mentor and manage performance. - Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with next-gen actuarial reserving and pricing tools (e.g., Akur8, ResQ, etc.) and experience in implementation preferred.
- Communication
Skills:
Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal. A track record of executive-level communication and ‘storytelling’ is highly preferred. - Entrepreneurial Drive / Intellectual Curiosity

Proven ability to achieve ambitious goals in an innovative and demanding environment. Ability to look at standard actuarial challenges in novel ways. - Strategic Thinking: Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to develop strategies informed by research, data, and industry trends.
While preference is for candidates able to work in either Melbourne, FL, or Dallas, TX, full-time, we will consider remote candidates with the expectation of 1 week per month travel to Melbourne, FL. Please note at this time we cannot consider remote candidates who reside in the following states: CA
