Position: Inspector/Sprayer Trainee - MC (22722)

Job Information

Open to any current Municipal employee working within the Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:30pm

Example of Duties

Supervise the Youth Employment in Parks program that includes a total of 72 crew members; seven crew leaders and an expediter. The Youth Employment in Parks Program (YEP) is a program of the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department and the Alaska Youth Environmental Action, a program of the National Wildlife Federation. The goal of the YEP program is to positively engage a new generation of diverse youth leaders with the environment and the Anchorage community through meaningful training, employment and outdoor recreation.

The selected applicant will work closely with the various government and non‑profit agencies, staff and management to develop, deliver and manage weekly park improvement projects and recreational activities and programs in various parks and facilities located throughout the Municipal park system. This position will develop, monitor and assign project and staff work schedules and assignments; oversee the operation of the project and the staff safety in carrying out the projects.

Write various reports, program and staff evaluations; meet with the program’s user groups, agencies; provide the community, various user groups and management with regular updates.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Graduation from high school or equivalent, and four years experience in recreation programs or activity under consideration. Ability to type at a net speed of 25 WPM. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

NOTICE

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

Additional Important Information

Applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively with youth, government and non‑profit agencies, management and others, including the media, while maintaining positive public and employee relations. The selected individual must be able to maintain and organize heavy workloads throughout the program season. Maintain records, fill‑out forms, write reports; evaluate the program and project operations and staff performances; provide verbal and written presentations.

Must be able to drive a 15 passenger van, work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
