Manager - Laboratory Medicine

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Laboratory Medicine & Pathology provides overall leadership of the assigned laboratory, and is accountable to all its functions, processes, regulatory requirements, and operations. Supports Health First’s System Director, Laboratory Medicine & Pathology on execution of Health First’s Mission and Vision. Tasked to manage resources of the Laboratory.

• Manages daily operations of the laboratory, consistent with the mission & vision of Health First Inc.
• Focuses the delivery of laboratory services to be ‘patient-centric’ providing excellent and compassionate care to our community.
• In partnership with laboratory medical director, accountable to all accreditation agencies ensuring the laboratory’s successful compliance with its regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, FL State, AABB, OSHA, etc.)
• Maintains a safe work environment for laboratory staff, as outlined by various accreditation agencies.
• Develops collaborative relationships with inter-professional departments and ongoing partnership with other managers, supervisors, and other members of Health First leadership team to ensure organization’s goals are achieved.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact productively and effectively with associates, leaders, clinicians, staff, and customers.
• Shows commitment to culture “Continuous Quality Improvement” through incorporation of evidenced based laboratory medicine, benchmarking, and implementation of recommended guidelines.
• Fiscally manages assigned laboratory department within the allotted resources.
• Serves and performs all functions of a CLIA general supervisor for the laboratory in all sections of responsibility.
• In collaboration with Human Resources, provides active supervisory mentorship, guidance, and support for all laboratory associates. Holds self and others accountable by developing an effective team of laboratory professionals inside and outside of the laboratory.
• Engages laboratory associates with constant and proactive communication of departmental goals, wins, ongoing projects, and changes within the Health First Laboratory via staff meetings, huddles, emails, rounding and other forms of communication.

• Define and communicate a clear, compelling vision for the team that effectively ties into the mission & vision of Health First, and inspirationally lead the team to achieve that vision.
• Provide leadership, motivation, coaching, feedback and support to foster and strengthen growth and development of an effective, high performing team.
• Lead change through effective communication, explaining the connection and value to the organization, creating stronger buy‑in and urgency, while understanding impact to the team to obtain commitment.
• Demonstrate openness to hearing diverse ideas and thoughts; create a sense of inclusivity; and encourage collaboration across teams to help break down silos to meet the team’s and organization’s goals.
• Recruit, select, grow, and retain highly engaged, high performing diverse and inclusive associates.
• Contribute to and support the strategic direction, and demonstrate financial acumen, for areas of responsibility and organization.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor of Science degree in Medical/Clinical Lab Science, or any related field, as outlined by CLIA.
• Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Two (2) years of lab supervisory experience.
• Licensure:
  Medical Technologist by the State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.
• Certification:
  None.
• Strong time management skills.
• Proficient in human relations and interpersonal communication.
• Effective organizational communication skills.
• Skilled in troubleshooting and problem‑solving.
• Competent in computer skills and technology use.
• Knowledgeable in quality assurance and quality control procedures.

• Education:
  
  Master’s Degree (MS, MBA, MHA, MPH or equivalent).
• Prior experience supervising hospital laboratories, experience in outpatient laboratory operations; prior experience as a lab manager.
• Licensure:
  Laboratory Supervisor’s license by the State of Florida.
