Position Summary
Provides and ensures patients receive whole care in all aspects of an office visit, including intake, test results, screenings, labs, medication administration, and closure of care gaps. The role delivers excellent customer service to patients/families and other care providers, focusing on patient-centered care.
Primary Accountabilities- Accurately prepare and perform point-of-care testing such as urine dipstick, blood glucose, etc. Perform clinical intake to include vital signs, medical history, surgical history, social history, and verification of current medications.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by provider utilizing the "6 Rights" of Medication Administration. Document and code appropriately. Controlled substances, insulin, and allergy doses must be checked by LPN, RN or provider.
- Assist in stocking and ordering supplies, coordinate medical supply ordering with the site manager, and maintain equipment.
- Prepare patients for examination and ensure pre-work is available for the provider, including notes, diagnostic test results, and imaging.
- Perform point-of-care testing and/or specimen collection as directed by provider.
- Track and communicate results to patients, labs, and diagnostic studies via phone calls, portal messages, or EMR. Communicate abnormal findings retrieved from lab, imaging, or specialty offices, and complete accurate documentation.
- Follow safety processes and policies, including infection prevention procedures, maintaining a clean environment, and documenting adverse events, infection control, and quality control measures as required. Comply with office policy, OSHA standards, and HIPAA privacy regulations. Deliver excellent customer service.
- Maintain patient flow after check-in; discuss flow with physician according to urgency and daily patient load. Assist more than one provider at a time as needed.
- Provide coverage in other areas of the medical group or office to support departmental needs, including patient registration, payment collections, checkout, and appointment scheduling.
- Comply with all office policies, OSHA standards, and HIPAA regulations as stated in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Answer internal and external customer phone calls and direct messages to the appropriate individuals. Ensure documentation is complete in the Electronic Medical Record. Act as a liaison between support services and other clinical divisions.
- Provide customer follow-up and education to ensure participation in care and respect for their needs. Adjust communications to meet the customer’s needs, expectations, culture, and individual differences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
Technical Diploma in Medical Assisting. - Work Experience:
None. - Licensure:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from an accredited organization:- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Medical Technologist (AMT)
- National Health career Association (NHA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Certification:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. - Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Must be able to pass colorblind testing to perform point-of-care tests requiring color change.
- Strong customer service skills including knowledge of recovery techniques.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Keyboarding skills.
- Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
- May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
