Position Summary

Primary Accountabilities Quality/No Harm
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients/customers, team members and yourself.
  • Ensure the correct procedure is performed on the correct patient by verifying two forms of patient identification on "Every Patient / Every Time".
  • Perform "time out" process prior to starting any invasive procedure.
  • Adhere to the ALARA principles of radiation safety.
  • Know the location of emergency equipment/supplies, how to use such equipment/supplies and the HF Emergency Kardex system.
  • Responsible for hurricane preparedness and your duties as a Health First associate.
  • Follow Infection Control policies and procedures; practice aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Effectively document and communicate pertinent and required information.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department, fellow associate and management in a timely manner.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation forms (written/electronic) such as Patient history, Pregnancy, IV contrast, Procedural consent forms, MAR, Safety Portal, Adverse Drug Reaction, Medication Reconciliation, Medication Occurrence Report, Incident Reports.
  • Performs Radiation Safety Officer duties.
  • Implements the radiation safety program.
  • Insures that radiation safety activities are performed with approved procedures and meet Regulatory requirements.
  • Promptly investigates and implements corrective actions as necessary regarding over exposures, accidents, spills, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, sues, transfers and disposals, or other deviations from the approved radiation safety practice.
  • A written report of these investigations and the corrective actions taken shall be given to management.
  • Implement policies and procedures to authorize the purchase of radioactive materials, receive and open packages of radioactive material, store radioactive material and maintain an inventory of radioactive materials.
  • Take emergency action if control of radioactive material is lost.
  • Perform periodic radiation surveys.
  • Perform checks of survey instruments and other safety equipment.
  • Maintain all records and reports required by the Department of Radiation Control.
  • Assist the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Perform quarterly reviews of the occupational radiation exposure records of all personnel working with radioactive materials.
  • Active member of the Health First Patient Safety Committee.
  • Perform procedure protocols, produce images consistent with image quality standards and follow all Federal, State and Regional healthcare regulations and adhere to The Joint Commission/ACR standards.
  • Properly position patients.
  • Review exam orders from medical charts and/or prescriptions prior to performing an exam.
  • Obtain pertinent patient history from the requisition, the patient, the medical chart or other sources.
  • Assure that exam rooms are clean, neat, stocked and disinfected; and that equipment is clean, disinfected and ready for the next patient encounter.
  • Follow proper image retrieval and file processes.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and offer suggestions for departmental improvements including departmental protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Accept additional responsibilities to assist with reaching departmental goals/initiatives.
  • Perform radiation safety tasks within required time limits and in accordance with BRC guidelines.
  • Completes computer processing for the Nuclear Medicine diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Performs therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals from cold kits.
  • Prepares and administers the correct radiopharmaceutical to the correct patient by the correct route in the correct dosage.
