Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-driven Technical Design & Visualization Specialist to join our team in a contract-to-hire capacity. This role focuses on creating and maintaining complex schematic and geographic visualizations that support real-world, high-pressure operational environments. This role also provides practical input into product and visualization design, contributing feedback on usability, clarity, and operator workflows based on hands-on implementation experience.
This position is expected to begin as a contract role, with the intent to convert to full-time employment based on performance, business needs, and mutual fit. As a small and fast-moving company, we’re looking for a versatile contributor who can support technical drawings, documentation, and other cross-functional needs as they arise.
Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and update schematic and geographic drawings for mission-critical utility systems
Ensure visual outputs are clean, accurate, and aligned with customer requirements
Translate technical requirements into clear, effective visualizations
Write, review, and edit technical documentation and supporting graphics
Provide design feedback to product and engineering teams to improve visualization usability, consistency, and operator experience
Contribute input on layout, visual hierarchy, and interaction patterns to support effective decision-making in operational environments
Track labor activity and support internal reporting
Communicate directly with customers in a professional, clear manner
Adobe Illustrator:
Advanced experience creating technical illustrations and scalable vector graphicsCAD Tools:
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Micro Station (Bentley), or similar drafting softwareGIS Fundamentals:
Understanding of geographic data and visual representationMicrosoft Office:
Proficiency in Excel and Word for documentation and trackingStrong written and verbal English communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Associate’s degree or higher in design, drafting, GIS, or a related field
Formal coursework or training in visual design principles and spatial layout
Experience collaborating with product, engineering, or UX teams to provide design or usability feedback
Ability to think beyond execution and offer thoughtful input on visual clarity, usability, and design improvements
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
Fast learner with the ability to quickly adopt new tools and workflows
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Reliable, accountable, and able to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable in a flexible, autonomous work environment
Please include a portfolio or work samples demonstrating technical illustrations, schematic designs, or GIS-based visualizations.
Contract-to-Hire DetailsInitial engagement will be as a contract position with full-time hours
Conversion to full-time employment is anticipated following a successful evaluation period
Contract duration and conversion timing will be discussed during the interview process
Position is subject to background checks, security clearances, and cybersecurity training
Standard business hours:
Monday–FridayOccasional travel within the U.S. and Canada may be required
Contract salary range: $45K-$65K Annually
