The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas and Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. EOIS develops, manufactures, and supports infrared and electro-optical solutions for soldiers, ground vehicles and airborne platforms.

Job SummaryProvide technical support to engineers and scientists on standard components, devices, material, products, processes and equipment. Work from optical drawings, operation sheets, and engineering specifications. Interpret and follow written documents such as SOPs and safety rules. Responsibilities may include cleaning, coating, testing, fabricating optical lenses, windows, blanks, tooling, and other components.
Job Responsibilities- Cleaning, safe handling, and surface quality inspection of optical components.
- Follow written process documentation as required.
- Program and complete setup of optical CNC equipment to fabricate various optical materials (CNC Grinders, Polishers, Core drills, & Diamond Turning Lathes).
- Perform mechanical and optical inspection of optics to verify adherence to print specifications.
- Maintain and enter inspection data into electronic database.
- Capable of performing related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to train new technicians in fabrication and inspection processes.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements applicable to the company in accordance with State and Federal regulations and any applicable certification required to maintain the certification.
- Interface with other departments to ensure efficient flow of information and materials.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot optical fabrication equipment.
- Daily validation of calibrated tools and shelf‑life materials.
- Analyze inspection results and metrology data and provide in‑depth feedback to engineering or production supervisors.
- Recognize process deviations and aide in identifying root cause & corrective actions.
- Support Engineer staff to develop new processes and continued process improvements.
- Coordinate several activities simultaneously, and reprioritize in response to changing operational conditions.
- Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
- Flexibility to work on off schedules when/if necessary.
- Maintain quality of finished product (Pass/fail rates).
- Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years of experience (or equivalent).
- Strong decision‑making and leadership skills.
- Experience handling small delicate optical components.
- Experience in the safe handling of chemicals.
- Experience with various computer applications, including MS Office products.
- Experience with MRP a plus.
- Good mechanical skills.
- Good hand‑eye coordination.
- Advanced understanding of optical CNC machining practices.
- Experience using mechanical metrology (micrometers, calipers, drop gages, gage blocks, dial indicators, etc.).
- Understanding of fundamental optics principles and ability to inspect and identify surface quality defects of optics.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must have an active DOD security clearance or ability to obtain one within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
