Position Summary

Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) functions as part of the Radiation Oncology team in an outpatient setting. The RN conducts thorough nursing assessments and works with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans for patients.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Coordinates patient care with licensed practitioners, physicists, dosimetrists, and other applicable clinical professionals to ensure seamless and high-quality treatment.
  • Serves as the central point of contact for all Radiation Oncology–navigated patients, including interactions with medical, nursing and ancillary service providers.
  • Assists with simulation and patient positioning to ensure comfort and accurate execution of prescribed therapies.
  • Provides thorough radiation‑specific education and support to patients and families throughout their treatment journey.
  • Assesses and monitors patients during CT procedures, administering emergency medications if necessary.
  • Monitors patients’ compliance and progress with the treatment plan and assists with referrals to outside resources and care coordination.
  • Supports patients and families with compassionate emotional support and provides resources to address concerns, enhancing overall patient experience.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate’s degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
  • Work Experience:

    One year in an oncology clinic setting.
  • Licensure:
    Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
  • Certification:
    American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and ongoing maintenance.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and radiation oncology–specific assessments.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a stressful environment with patients and families of various ages and comprehension levels.
  • Expertise in handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to life‑threatening situations.
  • Utilizes critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills to resolve issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Work Experience:

    Three years in an oncology clinic setting.
  • Certification:
    Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).
Physical Requirements
  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
  • May occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Work may involve moving within tight or confined spaces, reaching above shoulders or overhead.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment up to 90% of the shift.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions such as varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and noise levels.
  • May handle biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Requires communication skills for exchanging information with others.
  • Visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination needed for task performance.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined settings.
  • May require travel to facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of a personal vehicle.
