Elmwood Cemetery, 238
E. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA; work activities are performed at various City of Norfolk Cemeteries
7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Essential Functions- Maintains cemetery grounds, assists with landscaping and cleans area by mowing lawns, trimming grave markers, trimming trees and shrubs, raking leaves, sweeping and edging, preparing and planting flower beds, seeding the lawns, caring for plants, picking up litter and removing debris.
- Assists with funeral services by erecting tents, assisting with grave digging, filling in graves, disposing of funeral flowers, keeping records and preparing reports.
- Provides foundation service by digging holes, mixing and pouring concrete and moving and installing markers.
- Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment such as push mowers, riding mowers, weed eaters, edgers, clippers, trimmers, pruners, sprayers, etc.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time (8 hours per day), lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis, bend, stoop, climb, push, pull, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and utilize telephone and radio communications.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Supervises, guides and/or directs seasonal and temporary staff.
Requires a level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency and six months of experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance. The preferred candidate will possess equivalent to graduation from high school.
Additional Information & RequirementsMust possess a valid driver’s license; applicants selected for an interview will be required to provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicle driving record (obtained within last 30 days) to the interviewer.
Must be able to obtain a Virginia Pesticide Applicator’s license within six months of employment.
